Franchisee Spotlight: Ian Frankish

From International Education Leader to Local Business Owner

After a career working in education management across Asia, Africa, and Europe, Ian Frankish made the decision to return home to West Hull, driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact on students and families in his local community.

With experience as a teacher and educational institution manager, Ian has worked with students and educators from a diverse range of backgrounds. This has given him a unique perspective on how to effectively support learners with varying needs.

Why Tutor Doctor?

Launching his Tutor Doctor West Hull franchise in 2021, Ian saw the business as the ideal platform to combine his education expertise, leadership skills, and passion for helping young people.

With two teenage children of his own, Ian also understands the stress that parents feel when looking for the right academic support. Tutor Doctor’s one-to-one, personalised approach resonated with him as a way to ensure that every student receives tutoring tailored to their learning style and needs.

Making a Positive Community Impact: Beyond Tutoring

Ian’s commitment to education extends beyond the traditional classroom. In December 2023, he partnered with Paul Spence, founder of P.A.U.L for Brain Recovery, to launch the ‘One Punch Ruins Lives’ campaign across secondary schools in Hull and East Yorkshire.

This important community initiative aims to raise awareness among students about the dangers of violent assaults and the life-changing impact of brain injuries.

“Paul’s story struck a chord with me,” says Ian. “His talks are powerful, and I knew they could make a real difference in our schools.”

So far, the campaign has reached over 3,000 students, with the goal of delivering talks in every secondary school across the region.

“These talks aren’t just for boys - they’re for everyone,” says Paul Spence. “We want to equip young people with the awareness and tools to make better decisions and avoid life-altering situations.”

The Tutor Doctor Advantage

For Ian, Tutor Doctor has offered more than just a business opportunity - it’s a way to channel his global education experience into local, purpose-driven impact.

Ian loves reviewing the reports his tutors submit after each session and seeing the progress students make - whether it’s early literacy, maths, or A-Level politics. Every student and family is equally valued and supported throughout their Tutor Doctor experience.
